Saw the jewel box production of this forgotten play at the Mint this afternoon and was again impressed by this theater's wonderful staging-acting,direction,sets and costumes- of hidden gems.Jeremy Beck who was so brilliant in their last production,Hindle Wakes,is even better in this as a labor party candidate in 1920's London falling in love with the just as wonderful Jessie Shelton (new to me) as a lord's daughter. Watch him at the play's beginning as a disabled WW1 veteran reduced to begging, and see him gain confidence and self respect as he fights for the rights of the underclass-a really impressive transformation in just a little over two hours. Always heartening to see a talented new actor! Try to see him, before it closes next weekend!
