| No, she's invited to Sophie's wedding. Textual cohesion has never been MAMMA MIA!'s strong suit. |

| Textual cohesion has never been MAMMA MIA!'s strong suit. That's an understatement. :-) I reviewed a regional production of MAMMA MIA recently -- my first time seeing the show, actually. At one point, Donna mentions that her mother was a traditional American housewife who essentially disowned her when she became pregnant with Sophie, and who disapproves of her bohemian lifestyle. From the trailer for MAMMA MIA: HERE I GO AGAIN, it seems like Donna's mother is some kind of glamorous millionaire with access to a private jet and a couture wardrobe. Okay. And, of course, Cher is only three years older than Meryl Streep. |

| What I find weirder than Cher and Meryl playing Mother and Daughter is.... | |

| ....the memory of them sitting on the porch of Karen Silkwood's house and all the buried lesbian tension. (And Kurt Russell's breathtaking torso.) Certainly Cher's finest moment as an actor (including MOONSTRUCK) and one of Meryl's greatest roles. |
