Angels in America final show

Full house (no shock)

Lots of applause throughout the show, especially for entrances and last scene exits.

Three bows at the curtain call. No speech.

Good show. Highly enjoyed this company.

Lines for the bathroom....zoiks!

I saw the show Thursday and Friday. For part 2, when the lights went down, the applause was a roar like we were seeing a rock concert. When the actors had their final scenes, again a roar of applause. It was exciting to be in an audience that seemed to appreciate the effort the cast was putting into these performances.

Lines for the bathroom went quickly. Layout of the mens room is just plain dumb.

Today's matinee audience was similarly very familiar with the play; the most well known laugh lines didn't get huge laughs -- it seemed that many in the audience had seen the show before -- and each of the actors got major entrance and exit applause.

Funny enough, the part of the house which seemed most unfamiliar were the folks sitting right in the center of the orchestra. The most expensive seats. It was kinda funny how easily you could hear their reaction to parts of the play that the rest of us already knew well.

A great PERESTROIKA... thoughts on today's performance

It was a fantastic performance; I had only seen the in-theater screenings of MILLENNIUM APPROACHES and I'd been really looking forward to finally seeing this.

This is the first time I've seen the revised (2010?) text staged; I missed the Off-Bway production a few years back and my only other viewing was the 1st national tour. I must admit I found it much more satisfying on the whole, especially the changes to the Heaven scene. It now felt like the climax that it should be, as the two contrasting ideas -- progress vs. stasis, more life vs. more death -- got to deck it out properly.

I'd been a bit indifferent about the physical staging after seeing the filmed version, but I also remember some saying that the staging really saved its best theatrics for PERESTROIKA, and I'll admit that I really liked this. Beyond the excellent use of the Angel, I really loved the transition when Prior came back from heaven. It felt beautifully poetic.

I also finally understood why Denise Hough has been getting the "next big thing" press that the NYT and others have rewarded her. I absolutely loved her performance today; it felt human in the best of ways. I was also super impressed with Beth Malone's Angel. I'd only seen her do FUN HOME before this; she's a great actor.

I was very very moved in the theater this afternoon. I love it when a good production does that to me. Kudos to the entire ANGELS IN AMERICA company.

I think that it is less the revision of the text, but rather the cuts made in this production that really helped give the last part of Perestroika such drive. The director really had a view for where the play was headed and made her cuts with that in sight.

Thank you (and NewsGuy above) for these recaps. I was hoping to win the lottery for this last show, even though I saw the NT Live show as well as the live production twice (both for the full day marathon).

More life!

I ended up seeing Perestroika before Millennium Approaches just because of the way my schedule worked out (I wasn't sure I could see both parts until the extension, which wasn't announced until after I had bought the Perestroika ticket). I was very impressed with the use of the set in Perestroika and was disappointed with how bland Millennium Approaches was. But it makes perfect sense to have that design if you see them in the normal order.
