| Irene Molloy says the world is full of wonderful things and one of THE most wonderful is Bernadette Peters! Just saw her final triumphant performance as Dolly and it was tremendous. I've been lucky enough to see her do this four times, but today-where are the words? It was just a perfect meeting of actress and character-I counted at least 6 standing ovations-the first when she got off the horse drawn carriage, she started crying and had to wipe away tears with her glove. It was that kind of wonderful all afternoon! And we all stood for the whole title number-she had to acknowledge the deafening cheers with a little curtsy on the staircase so she could proceed. And when she got to Dolly will never go away again, you can imagine the applause. A perfect summer afternoon with my favorite actress since i saw her in On The Town in 1971,hope she's back on Broadway soon!!!! | |
