| Judy Garland, Ethel Merman,Carol Channing, Ella Fitzgerald, Debbie Reynolds, Angela Lansbury, Robert Goulet, Barbara Cook, Eddie Fisher, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme. I still look at something that these remarkable people signed for me with great respect for the effort they took to fully and clearly write their names. These people show respect for their fans. |

| I would also tend to think, unfortunately, in this day and age, that purchased signatures may not be real. Autographs from a former era may be real - but how do you know for sure that current stars' autographs aren't just mass-produced? In some cases, even forged? I have one such item. A toilet paper roll signed by the original cast of Urinetown. I do recognize some of the signatures. But I really bought it (on Ebay) because it just seemed like such a fun/funny thing to own. It wasn't really about the signatures themselves - it was the whole idea of that being a zany bit of show merchandise. (I also have 2 Urinetown shot glasses - not signed lol - for the same reason. They're just kinda fun to own.) I don't know if those are still available on Ebay. But I do know that someone was indeed selling them en masse at the time. I can guarantee you what I have is a "copy of a copy of a copy of Dior," assembled only by the guy on Ebay, and that the cast members never got near the item I bought. Again, no biggie, because for me the signatures weren't in of themselves the reason for the purchase. But technically I would think the toilet paper roll itself is worth more than the paper cover with the signatures. But it does prompt the question - if the star(s) in question most likely didn't actually sign the item you're purchasing, what's the significance of the signature, legible or not? Is it still so important to you even if you're getting the autograph via Xerox, lol? Caveat emptor... |

| I greatly enjoyed SPEED THE PLOW with Moss/Piven and Esparza; wHILEWaiting at the stage door, in case the cast signed playbills, a 'gentleman'. crossed the street with 4 teenage boys in tow, handed them playbills(and money) AND 10 by 4 glossies. Jeremy Piven signed their playbills, but when they asked him sign the glossy photos of himself, he declined, saying something like you're just going to sell these. In other words he knew it was a sales con.(I've always thought of the 'gentleman as a Broadway Fagin.) | |

| Debbie Reynolds had the most beautiful signature but remember these people are of the generation where penmanship mattered. | |

| Debbie Reynolds was great. She took time with fans, she understood the value of that. I asked her to write something very specific on a photo for a friend; she asked me what it meant and then went ahead and wrote it. She did mention in her later years that it was harder and harder to pull herself together and go out to events, but she did it and she never looked less than 100%. I also remember at a Thanksgiving night performance of "Irene" she did a little curtain speech thanking the audience for coming out that night. Definitely old school studio training at its best. | |
