| Tony Kushner told the Daily Beast: “You can’t get away from how grotesque [Trump] is. Reagan was really disgusting too, but not as venal.'' | |

| I'm sure Michael Moore would love to star in this "lovefest" for President Trump. We all remember how the grosses were last year for such a highly partisan show. | |

| Thanks for the info, Wayman…...and, er, for this particular "highly partisan show" ( or 'romp') I'll go with Kevin Spacey over Michael Moore. | |

| Look at the % of total gross (between 33% and 39%) for the weeks ending 9/10/17 through 10/15/17: www.broadwayworld.com/grosses/THE-TERMS-OF-MY-SURRENDER. Based on those statistics, I doubt most people would consider that show a success. | |

| If (and only if): 1. You've paid the slightest bit of attention here for however long you've been around, and 2. You have the slightest bit of concern about conveying accurate information, and 3. If you are posting here for any reason other than what I suspect, [and I have zero confidence that any of these conditions are true] Then you would know that the percentage gross [which is the percentage of potential gross, not total gross (which doesn't make any sense as all shows would be at 100% at all times)] is not a relevant metric vis-a-vis the success of a show. (For that, you need to know the show's nut.) Notwithstanding, sometimes one must step back from the nickles and dimes and make a more fundamental assessment of "success." I know one woman, a progressive Democrat, who was inspired to run for public office after seeing The Terms of My Surrender. I would consider the show a success because of that, even if it lost every penny. And I suspect a lot of other people would concur. |

| "2. You have the slightest bit of concern about conveying accurate information," summertheater has demonstrated in the past that they have no interest in conveying accurate information. Their relationship with the truth is as tenuous as that of their political hero. |

| It's a shame that the first paragraph was written, as it shows "bad faith" towards an open exchange of ideas. Nevertheless, there are two schools of thought, and it ultimately comes down to a business decision. Option A - The theater was empty, the theater couldn't get anything better to come in, and let's let this guy come in and ramble on for 2.5 hours each night. We don't need an expensive set, it's cheap to run, and more of the money we get we can keep as profit (due to lower expenses). Option B - Let's not settle for mediocrity (in terms of profit). Now the theater is full with a "mediocre" show in terms of profit and we can't get something better to come in. Maybe if the theater wasn't full, a surprise hit could have started there and still been a success. I didn't see anything currently running at the Belasco in this week's past grosses. So perhaps they made the wrong choice by going with Option A. If the show was such a "success", why aren't they begging the "star" to come back for an open-ended run? I'll say based on the average paid admission for Terms of My Surrender, I'd be willing to guess it was the highest-papered Broadway show of 2017. A theater has a business decision to make: Do you want to run a cheap show that appeals to a limited highly partisan crowd (so you can keep more of your money as profit, but not make much profit at all) or do you want to hold out for something better that's going to be long running (that's more expensive to run, but you'll sell tons of premium seats and you'll end up making a much larger profit)? I think many people will argue that the theater made a poor business decision by going with Option A. |

| The last paragraph is open to interpretation, and I think many who are not "progressive" Democrats would disagree. These days, the word "progressive" is starting to be replaced by another word that starts with S. | |

| MockingbirdGirl, that was so thoughtful of you. Hey, we all make mistakes. On Tony night, Summertheater predicted: ''For Best Musical, I'm guessing Mean Girls will win, with Frozen a close second choice. No way will Band's Visit win (it's a total snoozer).'' |

| It reminds me of the year "Once" won, which I thought was a total snoozer as well. Sometimes the most popular show (as judged by the bridge & tunnel crowd, and the tourists) doesn't win. I read that this year's choice for best musical was more of a choice *against* the others (for many Tony voters), not *for* the winner. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the "winner" in my eyes. | |

| JohnPopa, it sounds like your dad has something in common with the current resident in the Oval Office, who spreads wacky conspiracy theories and lies by saying ''A lot of people are saying that ...,'' without ever quoting an actual source. And then adds: ''But I'm not a conspiracy person.'' ;) | |

| With Tony Kushner, it could be a five act play. I feel though this is more the second act closer and we now move toward the rush of events that finally brings down his Presidency. | |

| With Kushner at the helm, I doubt the play will actually focus specifically on Trump. It may be about Trump affects the people around him and the country. It will be "about" Trump as much as Angels in America is "about" Roy Cohn. |

| True, I'm curious what Kushner thinks about our new special relationship with Russia. It's somewhat of a minefield on the left at the moment in assessing it. | |
