Caught Jeremy Jordan and Ashley Spencer at the new Sony Hall last night, both in great voice. Highlights included a medley in which each sang the other’s Broadway songs and a medley of 90’s television theme songs, with medleys arranged by the effervescent Benjamin Rauhala at the piano. Ashley shone on “Embraceable You.” The best moment, however, was Jeremy’s drop-dead gorgeous “Bring Him Home.”
The sold-out venue was ridiculously crowded, with standing room people crammed all along the aisles and in every corner. With VIP tickets we arrived at 6:00 for a 7:30 show, just as the doors were about to open, to find a large VIP line already waiting. We ended up at the far edge of the front row, which was fine.
Menu could be improved with more hot beverage choices. Right now there’s only regular coffee and Lipton tea - not even decaf. Or maybe it’s just we cranky old people who crave such stuff in the evening: the place gave off a young vibe, with loud background music, flashy strobe lighting, and a crowd that mostly looked too young to have been watching any 90's TV show on its first run. |
