No job or job failure or job setback or reputation setback is worth the taking one’s own life, in my opinion. I’m reminded of my horror when Bernie Madoff’s son took his own life. And the horror of “Death of a Salesman.” And it was a common practise among the ancient Romans.
I think it would be wondrous for our species to evolve, unequivocally, beyond this pattern of behavior, of equating our intrinsic value with our perceived value.

Especially in todays climate, and with all productions now required by AEA to have anti harassment/anti discrimination policies in place, with reporting and investigotary ground rules - its crucial that acts that seem to violate these policies and norms be reported immediately. Usually to Company Manager/General Manager - and copied to AEA via the deputy.

All of these policies now in place have very strong language forbidding retaliation of any kind for the reporting of what a performer (or technician, or stage hand, or designer) feels is abusive behavior.

Early reporting is crucial.
