No job or job failure or job setback or reputation setback is worth the taking one’s own life, in my opinion. I’m reminded of my horror when Bernie Madoff’s son took his own life. And the horror of “Death of a Salesman.” And it was a common practise among the ancient Romans.
I think it would be wondrous for our species to evolve, unequivocally, beyond this pattern of behavior, of equating our intrinsic value with our perceived value. |
