Truthfully, I am surprised that anyone with a "name" would want to risk mingling with the stage door crowds. There are a lot of crazed fans out there, including some pee stained loser who'd return the next night and shoot you because he, or she didn't like your penmanship.
Over forty years ago, John Lennon stopped to give a fan an autograph, just as he was getting into a car in front of the Dakota. A few hours later, the same "fan", waiting in front of the Dakota, shot Lennon to death in front of his wife.
It's a different World, which is a shame for all of the fans, as well as for the performers. Crazy, sick people, stalkers, and a few that think all kinds of unbalanced things.
So, if anyone scribbles on your paper, realize that they are doing you a favor, and be grateful they even came out the stage door.
TIME MACHINE...I once waited to see PEARL BAILEY come out the stage door after "Hello, Dolly!" ( this was circa 1968). Instead of signing, she had pre-signed glossy 8" x 10"s, and handed them out.
I think some of today's performers should do that, and then run like hell ! |
