I'm semi-ashamed to say that I too listen to parts of the MEAN GIRLS score pretty frequently (more frequently than THE BAND'S VISIT or other, more lauded pieces). There's some amateur-hour stuff in there to be sure ("power" and "chihuahua" don't rhyme, no matter how much you have the singer contort the pronunciation), but items like "Apex Predator" and "Revenge Party" are very enjoyable songs that effectively move plot and character. Plus "Stupid with Love" is insanely catchy and contains perhaps my favorite lyric run in the show: "I'm astounded and nonplussed/I am filled with calcu-lust/Does this guy work out? He must."
So sue me. |
