Do you really think each and every replacement Christine would be put forth by the producers of POTO for consideration? I doubt it. I imagine that producers would only put forth really special/well-known replacements and/or replacements who manage to create their own buzz or who have the power to contractually demand it or are contracted to be in the show for long enough to make it worthwhile.
I don't see the producers of CHICAGO, for example, putting forward the latest Billy Flynn, who's only in the show for six weeks, because...why?
Similarly, I couldn't see the producers of HELLO, DOLLY! putting forward Bernadette Peters in 2018 because she was only in the show for six months and a win for her, though prestigious, wouldn't have given the production much time to promote her as a Tony nominee/winner. If I recall, Peters left DOLLY shortly after the Tonys in June.
I think a person put forward as a replacement would have to satisfy so many criteria for his/her show's producers that, in reality, we wouldn't see it happen much. |
