Sure, the recordings we search for are still available to us, but that thrill of actually going to the merchant, sifting through bins of records and CD's, and basking in the triumph of a rare find can not be duplicated online! The same can be said for sheet music, vocal selections, and vocal scores. I can still remember the actual dates when I located obscure finds (long after they were first published) such as the vocal selections to "Sherry!" and "Magdalena." Also, finding rare songs in larger anthologies, such as songs from "Henry, Sweet Henry" and the aborted "Breakfast at Tiffany's" proved exceedingly gratifying. Often this happened by just taking the time to go through piles and filing cabinets of music in music stores! |
