The above title=lead, below title=featured still stands. Producers can request different categories, and the Tony Committee can change categories as well. As an example, Kristine Nielsen was (strategically) below the title in VANYA SONIA MASHA SPIKE - and it would have bee great for her as she would very likely have won the Best Featured Actress in a Play Tony. But the Tony Committee ruled that despite billing, she was being put in Best Actress category.
Many many not know this, but part of your show being Tony eligible requires you to sign a document that binds you to not question any decision that Tony Committee makes regarding eligibility and categories. The Committee does as they feel best, and one has to live with it. |
