The Hungarian production in Budapest is in fact a different production directed by Tamás Szirtes at the Madach Theatre. They have quite a few blockbuster musicals in rep, such as Mary Poppins, Joseph... Dreamcoat, Cats, Mamma Mia and School of Rock. There is another high profile production coming to the Folketeateret in Oslo, Norway directed by the Australian Stephen Barlow who also directed the Romanian premiere.
The West End, Broadway, São Paulo and Copenhagen productions are in fact the only “original” stagings to be seen at this time, but a tour of it will be in Asia and the Middle East very soon. I’ve heard rumors of a supposed future of the tour but nothing concrete. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the original return to other countries in which it was previously performed. |
