| That's a very limited view of things. You think because you and a few hundred, maybe a few thousand at most, saw it... that should be enough? If it was really great, and a piece or a staging or a performance that deserves to be seen by more people, and there's the projection of enough people willing to buy tickets or producers with money to pay for the production and the advertising, then why not? What's the problem? EVEN if it went to Broadway a show like Carmen Jones isn't going to be open for more than a year, and possibly not more than a 3 month run at a "non-profit" like RTC. So why not? Beyond that it's a chance to give actors of color a chance to do a lesser known show that doesn't have a hundred famous stamps on it already known to the public and create roles that can be seen by more people, and be exposed to more audiences and fans, and earn a *broadway salary* (or at least more than they were getting originally for this show) and possibly be on a cast recording for it forever, and even possibly be up for awards and at least more press which gets their names and faces out there to many more people for building their careers and their fan bases (which, with social media, are becoming a part of how shows get sold and how people get cast). I don't seen a down side unless the transfer sucks and then oh well... another mixed bag production that some more people will see if they want to, and if not it'll close. I'd rather this than another year of Phantom. Either way, for *MOST* people, living in NYC or not, an extension or transfer is the only way they'd get a chance to see it... if it was good or special, i don't see the issue. It's not as if it's being proposed as a film or having a 3 year contract to play broadway. |
