I was always intrigued by the billing for the original production of THE PAJAMA GAME. Janis Paige as Babe was billed above the title with Carol Haney as Gladys billed below the title. When Haney left the show Helen Gallagher as Gladys got the same billing until Janis Paige departed and was replaced by Pat Marshall. At that point Helen Gallagher was moved above the title with Marshall as Babe below. When Juiie Wilson joined the cast as Babe the billing was reversed again, with Wilson above the title and Gallagher's replacement Neile Adams moved below. Obviously it had to do with who was the bigger name at the time and Gallagher had already won a Tony.
The billing for the original Broadway version of CABARET also changed frequently, with characters moving above and below the title with each cast replacement. |
