Joel Grey's billing for Cabaret changed right after he won his Tony Award. Just below the title had been listed "Starring Jill Haworth, Jack Gilford, Bert Convy and Lotte Lenya," followed by "with Joel Grey, Edward Winter and Peg Murray." Once Grey won his Tony, his name followed Convy's in the starring category, followed by "and Lotte Lenya." You could say he went from second to first billing, though none of their names were above the title.
Judi Dench and Lila Kedrova would be billed above the title when the show opened in London in 1968. |
