Yes... again... he wrote it FOR an actress who was 47 when he wrote it, and originated the role at 49, even though wrote the script calling for an 18-20 year old.
I don't know why he did this, but he did. And he made sure that no one would ever be precious about making sure to only cast an actress actually believable as 20 years old age... I wonder if Julie Andrews is the only actress in a major high profile production to actually be/look/sound 20 as Eliza. Probably not, but I don't care enough to research it. :) |
