| My personal favorite was one of his flops, "The Gingerbread Lady." Saw it in London with a great Elaine Stritch. It was made into an okay film with Marsha, "Only When I Laugh," that featured the last great work of Joan Hackett. I always felt it was one of his more ambitious works, in many ways uncompromising in its gnarly portraits of several people. It never quite came together, but it's a piece that shows off more than his comic skills, though it demonstrates those as well. |
