As a high school freshman, my English teacher was giving out twofer coupons for THE APPLE TREE. As a result I got to see the show three times (once was a matinee with Phyllis Newman). Harris was flawless the first time but the second time she was having a terrible time with her voice giving her problems. It cracked over and over again in the first act (Adam and Eve). We all thought her standby would be on for the "Lady or the Tiger" segment. But no way. Harris seemed to suddenly have a grip on her voice especially during her belt numbers. She ended on a triumphant note with an adoring audience giving her a strong ovation. She was one of a few actresses I've experienced who had the audience eating out of her hand within moments after making her first entrance. She was perfect in every way and I totally respect her for hanging in there the last time I saw her. She will be missed.
