Good to know all this - thanks. (It helps to know you're more experienced, and probably a bit older, than many of us probably thought, lol.)
So I'm assuming you're the lyricist working with someone else doing the music? Have you written songs before, or do you have any completed songs from this project that are performance-ready? If so, you might try to find some singers interested in showcasing some of your work - start getting some recognition as a songwriting team. There are a good many young writers who have started this way before getting larger-scale projects underway - and getting your songs out for other professionals to hear might make you some good contacts.
I don't know what other options you may have in terms of the rights for this particular movie - but as I said, in the meantime, it might be good to try to work on something else, and come back to the film property when you have more cred as a musical theatre writer - at which point, others might be able to help you solve the rights issues as well. |
