| Jesse Green gets it right about why Simon's early plays worked. There was a solid structure that the jokes hung on. Simon would write a mindboggling amount of drafts to get his plays right. Green is also right about the audience Simon fine tuned his plays for. I think that kind of precision is still done in the commercial theater but not with playwrighting. |
