| Thank you for adding this scene showing the amazing talent of Gregg Burge. In June 1994, Opera Omaha had as part of their season a production called Requiem Variations, which combined Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem with the second act of Song and Dance. Gregg Burge was Principal Dancer in Requiem and the lead in Variations, and I think he gave the performance of his all too short life the day I saw him. I was ushering the final performance, and rumors were floating around that ALW was in Omaha for it. When the lights went down, there were eight prime seats noticeably empty, and suddenly in came Andrew Lloyd Webber and others. Someone in one of the boxes noticed him and started applauding, and soon there was a standing ovation. Gregg Burge was just brilliant and must have been thrilled to perform for the composer of both pieces, and the entire performance was one where the audience could feel the electricity going from the stage throughout the Orpheum Theatre. ALW then flew from Omaha to LA to see Faye Dunaway in Sunset Blvd., and we all know what happened with that. |
