I'm rather surprised at the comparatively small number of posts here re: Neil Simon's passing vis-a-vis his place in Broadway history

Maybe it's because he passed over the weekend, but this is somebody who had huge shows on Broadway over the years and who wrote very successful films. While his standing has diminished somewhat, which is theorized about in the latest Times article, at one point people were clamoring to be in his shows and to see his shows. I still in particular love watching "Barefoot in the Park", "The Odd Couple", and the "Prisoner of Second Avenue", just off the top of my head. Among my memories of some great performances in his shows, I remember seeing "Chapter Two" on Broadway and getting to see that Anita Gillette was a really excellent actress, not just this celebrity who I had previously known as a smart player on tv game shows. I'm sure folks have many memories of fine performances that they saw in Simon's plays, as he wrote some great roles for people; hell, with the audition material alone, I'm sure you could fill a theater for weeks with all the actresses who've auditioned with Jenny's "I'm worth it!" speech from "Chapter Two" or Sophie's "Mr. Cornell... Leave me A-Lone" speech from "Star-Spangled Girl"!
