Tough questions.
Someone else alluded to this, and it's not a very satisfying answer, but maybe your best bet is make a mark first on something that is easier for you to be a part of. Then when you are more established perhaps the people saying no will be more inspired to figure out a way to get you the rights. The history of theatre is filled with stories of people doing some other project before the one they started first or wanted to do more.
Also I can think of some theatre unknowns who got great attention for a musical that was not based on source material: see Avenue Q and Next to Normal :-) |
