Wondering what everyone is looking forward to seeing this fall
Posted by: Ann 11:53 am EDT 08/28/18

On my list (openings through mid-October) - some I have information on, others just by the credits or description - are:

Girl from the North Country
The Ferryman
The Nap
Oklahoma! (St. Ann's Warehouse)
The True (by Sharr White with Edie Falco)
The Niceties at MTC
I Was Most Alive with You (Craig Lucas)
Scaps (at the Flea)
Lewiston & Clarkson (by Samuel D Hunter with Arnie Burton)
What The Constitution Means To Me (NYTW)
Apologia (with Stockard Channing)
India Pale Ale (MTC)
Fireflies (Atlantic)
Popcorn Falls (by Jim Hindman, directed by Christian Borle)

(That's NY - in Chicago next month I'm looking forward to Tootsie, Bruce Norris' Downstate, Nell Gwynn at Chicago Shakes, and Jordan Seavy's HOMOS: Or Everyone in America.)

There is an upcoming Chicago production of Caroline, Or Change (co-presented by Timeline and Firebrand Theatres) that may be a bit under the radar. It runs 9/22/18 through 10/28/18 at the Den Theatre.

Marianne Elliott's gender-reversed 'Company'

The Shaina Taub/Kwame Kwei-Armah 'Twelfth Night' in London at the Young Vic

The English National Opera's 'Porgy and Bess', which will be heading to the Metropolitan Opera next year

Mark Gatiss and Adrian Scarborough in 'The Madness of George III' in Nottingham, which will be broadcast on NT Live in November... two days before I see it (I don't live in Nottingham).

Most of these aren't announced to come to NYC, right?

Not ALL in London, no.

(Little hint: I actually did write where the one theatre that isn't in London is located.)

i.e in the UK

I meant not in America or NYC... since the entire thread was answers for NYC based shows. I wasn't sure if I'd missed some announcements on those shows.

Also I will likely be in the UK this winter, and seeing shows, so I'm especially curious to know if things I'm planning to see (or might plan for) are going to be in NYC also.

"I meant not in America or NYC..."

I know some Americans find this concept almost impossible to grasp, but the UK beyond London is not some kind of cultural desert. Not every event of cultural significance takes place in the capital, not every theatre in the country is located in London, and there are - gasp! - thriving cultural venues in every major city in the UK. Most of the other answers in the thread are shows in New York, but the thread's header imposes no geographical restrictions.

And not to belabour the point, but really - if a post says something is taking place in Nottingham, there's a very strong likelihood that the event is NOT IN LONDON.

For God's sake.

FOR GOD'S SAKE indeed - I already explained *in the subject of the post you are replying to* what I meant and the mistaken wording of my original reply. I think it's deeply pointless and silly to pretend you don't know what I mean and assume something else was meant so you can go on a completely unwarranted rant. I don't know where this came from, it was a simple slip up of language, I never implied that the only place of cultural relevance in the UK was London. AS I SAID I was clarifying that these shows were not scheduled to come to NYC currently. Please for the love of theater, get off your high horse and MOVE ON. Thanks.

Grow up.

Sorry but no. It was over when I corrected myself - you are the one who threw this hissy fit. I responded to it because it was completely unwarranted, and what you ranted about was not even evident in my comments. But go on thinking whatever you want.

Distance between them is roughly the same as between Times Square and Wilmington, Delaware!

just the Janet McTeer Bernhardt/Hamlet. Her Nora in A Doll's House is one of the best performances I have ever seen. I seem to be ambivalent about other stuff. Oh yeah, King Kong is certainly on my list!

But I have a feeling I will be disappointed. I wouldn’t be surprised if the show I like the most is King Kong.

I’m hoping glen close in mother of the maid is good.

...and although I'm obviously biased, Midnight at the Never Get is a piece I've been a fan of since I first saw it a couple of years ago and I'm thrilled we're doing it at the York.

I concur. I feel fortunate to have seen the late, great Eileen Heckart in the role of Gladys, but surely May will be an event.
