| So a singing and dancing "Mrs. Doubtfire" is also on its way; with "Tootsie," an embarrassment of drag tales? | |

| The new musical will be written by "Something Rotten!" co-creators John O’Farrell, Karey Kirkpatrick, and Wayne Kirkpatrick and directed by Jerry Zaks. Two shows about heterosexual men turning to drag for other than identity-establishing purposes*, though perhaps they'll be spaced by development on "Doubfire." Maybe they'll be wonderful, both. I remember "Sugar," and how much it was anticipated. And I enjoyed it, at age 20. *shorthanding here; a big complicated subject -- why people express themselves via another gender -- not necessarily right for a theater board. This is a general enough category, since both stories are about straight men who self-identify thus. |
