| I think it's made very clear that Simon, aka Lola, is a straight man. The "What A Woman Wants" sequence in Act II helps to define this, IMO. | |

| ...but Tony winner Billy Porter said he played the role as a gay man. Fine for him as long as it was something that Mitchell and Fierstein in particular were ok with. The idea that Porter's interpretation is the law of the land is another issue altogether, lol. Just like any other actor in any other role. ;-) |
