I can only say I was stunned by how long the entrance applause (meaning that moment she drops the newspaper & reveals herself to the audience) was for Peters; it was rapturous and went on and on and on. I'd seen her numerous times on Broadway, specifically in Sunday in the Park, Song & Dance, Into The Woods, Gypsy, Night Music and Follies, but I've never seen an audience go quite that MAD for her. And it continued throughout the show; her Harmonia Gardens entrance applause was lengthy, but I believe that first moment went on even longer.
Maybe it was due to the fact she was beginning her last week in the show...? Whatever the case, it was the kind of applause I'd expect for Barbra Streisand or Hugh Jackman. |
