| Can't help you about the Webb, but weigh in to agree about the album. It's something I've played consistently since she performed much of it in her evening concert with the same name on the Beaumont stage. It shows off a side of Lupone that we don't connect with in the theater. She doesn't have a performance style that would logically lend itself to these (mostly but not all) quieter pop/rockish/folkish songs and their arrangements; and yet, magic happened. She's in wonderful voice, and her take on the storytelling in each lyric is moving and illuminating. I love the elegance and simplicity, and I'm not one to listen to here theater recordings, other than "Evita." | |

| I saw her her concert years ago as part of the Divas at the Donmar series in London which consisted of most of the songs on the Matters off the Heart CD. It was a small intimate space and you saw a totally different side of LaPone. It was like she was performing just for you in your living room. | |

| I saw Patti perform recently at the Sydney Opera House and was reminded what a magical performer she can be. It had been quite a few years since I'd seen her in concert and I guess I'd become influenced by the image of Patti as a brassy, loud, steam rolling belter. But when it's just her and a piano you get the nuances, the warmth, the subtleties, the delicacies and rich colorings of her voice. | |

| She just speaks to me in that song, and I don't even associate it with her singing it, curiously. I have it on an old "mix tape" of my own devising, and never tire of it. Written by Beth Nielsen Chapman. |

| I so agree. I love her version. And it's even better in person. As I recall she sings it sitting on a bench. She gets much more choked up than she does on the recording. Then it propels her into standing and moving center to close act one with Being Alive. Being Alive is not on the Matters of the Heart recording but is in the show. Shivers. I also LOVE her rendition of Air That I Breathe. Her phrasing and breathing is so magical, almost hypnotic. |

| So happy see Matters of the heart come up here. Not only Patti's best, but one of my favorite cd's. I think precisely because it is so intimate and not over the top. And the songs choices are unsurpassed, including all those mentioned here. | |
