I saw Patti perform recently at the Sydney Opera House and was reminded what a magical performer she can be. It had been quite a few years since I'd seen her in concert and I guess I'd become influenced by the image of Patti as a brassy, loud, steam rolling belter. But when it's just her and a piano you get the nuances, the warmth, the subtleties, the delicacies and rich colorings of her voice.
