| Definitely. Roy is not the lead in Millenium, Prior is. Both are big juicy roles, but it is much more Prior's story and he is the true lead of both plays. The nominations in 93 were more inexplicable... but likely had to do, like they do now, with the likelihood of getting the nom and the chances of winning for the actor, and for the production. Rarely is there a tie, so if both actors are in Lead, the show only gets 1 Tony if one of them wins. If they are in Lead and Featured and both win, the show gets 2 Tonys. And of course there's the actor to consider, and their desire to win a Tony being bigger than their desire to be nominated in the most appropriate category regardless of chances of winning or competing against their co-star. |
