Hangmen transfer?

What was the last word on this? I know it was postponed earlier this year... Has there been any news since then?

I guess I don't remember that email. But I have to say the Atlantic production (after I had already seen the NT Live version) was one of my favorite productions of the year. I don't know how I would have felt about it without Johnny Flynn, though, who gave one of the scariest performances I've seen on stage. And though McDonagh apparently said it may be his most shocking, I thought it might be his most mainstream and that it would do well on Broadway.

The sense I got was that they pretty much abandoned plans of a transfer "indefinitely" when the timing (or whatever) didn't work out for this past Spring. I hope I'm wrong about that, but that was what seemed to be the case to me. If I recall correctly, when they extended for the last time at the Atlantic, they basically sent out an email to people on their email list saying "It's not transferring, so you'd better see it now."

Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.

I believe you are right. There were a lot of issues keeping the major players of the cast together - and perhaps someone decided that maybe this wouldn't be a hit. I enjoyed it, but hard to see it having legs to recoup on Broadway without stars. If it had transferred immediately it would have played into all the Oscar excitement around McDonagh

Two of McDonagh's earlier plays recouped on Broadway: Beauty Queen and Pillowman. However, others like Inishmore, Spokane, and Inishmaan were commercial failures despite two of them having stars like Christopher Walken and Daniel Radcliffe. All of his plays certainly do well at the Atlantic and have all been well received in various Chicago regional theaters. Hangmen scared the bejesus out of me, but made me laugh at the same time. Perhaps Broadway is not the best way to go for it.
