I am a huge Evita fan--it's my favorite show. And so I trekked out to Sag Harbor to see this. I love the Prince version but have always been on the lookout for productions to make their own mark. For others who may be interested, the entire show was set in a bar 10 years after the anniversary of Eva's death. The director's concept was that these people gather once a years to reenact the story. I thought it was a solid way to make use of a smaller space and deliver the show in an interesting and satisfying way. Unfortunately the actress playing Eva could not sing the score in quite the way it needs--and I have sympathy because I know it's hard. It's rare I leave a production of Evita more infatuated with the ensemble than the Eva, Che, or Perron, but that was the case. The ensemble was excellent.

And since I save all my programs, we can acknowledge the team: Sets by Anna Louizos (!), Costumes by Lindsay W. David, Lighting by Mike Billings. Music DIrector Camille Johnson, Music Supervision Aaron Jodoin. Choreography by Marcos Santana.
