I met THeresa somewhat recently through a friend - i was always on the fence, loved some plays, didn’t care for others, but On the personal front I’ve found her genuinely good humored and super intelligent. And she’s been a rest friend to our mutual buddy. Just good company. she took a lot of crap for decades and I get the sense theres a sort of ptsd. Some of the stories I’ve heard are really insane and I’m sure I’d be far worse off if I had weathered some of the crap she’s gone through. Haven’t seen B/H yet but was planning on going in a couple weeks after they get through previews. I did LOVE seared at WIlliamstown theater this summer - anyone catch that?

I saw Seared on what seemed to be some sort of opening night. Theater was packed with overly-enthusiastic guests which I found irritating.
I saw four shows that weekend (Lempicka, The Waves at Vassar, and Moulin Rouge in Boston), and that one was my only disappointment. I didn't think the play had anything to say.

I'm 0 for 3 with her plays (I didn't care for Mauritius or Seminar), but, even though I didn't renew my Roundabout subscription, I bought a cheap ticket to this.

Can you tell me what you thought of Lempicka?

Thank you.

The play by Rybeck I’ve enjoyed the most is The Understudy. But Smash almost ruined my life by watching it.

There were things I loved...the staging is very inventive and has a definite movie feel to it. I would see almost anything Rebecca Chavkin directed...I thought her version of The Royale was excellent and while there are things I didn't love about Natasha, the staging is an event.

I thought the story was pretty fascinating (although according to what I've read on wiki, like most historical shows, lots is left out and lots is exaggerated.) She certainly led an interesting life...and happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time in both Russia and Europe.

There are three former-Elphabas...so that tells you the nature of a lot of the music. I really liked the orchestrations, but then they started getting a little too similar.

I sat second row....way too close. It's a show that definitely needs to be seen from a few rows back or front mezz. The people in the first row were really struggling because the lighting was bleeding into the front of the audience.

...coincidentally, one of my bosses and his wife (relatively avid theatergoers in their 70s) were there the same week, and he called me after to recommend it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first season of SMASH, which I believe Rebeck was responsible for.

The second season...not so much.
