| I saw this revival for the third time yesterday and it is still a great experience. I was disappointed to see about 100 empty seats in the house. This really is the best "easy ticket" show on Broadway. The cast is perfect, even with cast changes. I hope it is still playing the next time I am in the city because I would definitely see it again. | |

| An easy ticket, but not a cheap one. It's almost never on TDF, and the Today Tix price is nearly $90. I'm dying to see it, but I can't afford it. | |

| I think it's a fairly easily ticket - especially for someone dying to see it. I saw it fairly easily doing the lottery, and I don't even live there full time to go every day. I hate broadway lotteries (i much MUCH prefer a rush policy where you can commit one time and make sure you get it in the morning, which I also think is more fair)... I would suggest giving that a try a few times if that's possible for you. | |

| When I did it it was live. I assume it still is. And I would *always* check the show's policy, because often shows have a TodayTix lottery AND a live one or a rush line. | |

| I've seen it four times. Twice with TDF (once very recently) , once with my students for $45 and once for $90, which is crazily, quite reasonable for Broadway tickets now. I don't think it's as tough as you're implying. |

| I haven't seen it on TDF since well before the Tonys... but perhaps they are just posting very small amounts that get snatched up quickly. Nice to hear that it's showing up, though; will keep my eyes posted. | |

| And it's also the cost of a hostel bed in Boston. I could go to DC, see a play, spend the night, and catch some art at the National Gallery for about $90. It's a splurge. It's vacation or this Broadway show, at least on my Geoffrey Owen's wages. There are some shows that I would gladly pay that for (though ironically, they also tend to charge more), but this one hasn't quite convinced me that it's worth it. I'm not saying its expensive, just that it ain't cheap, and they don't offer "bad" seats at comparably low prices. |

| Why is it better to let 100 seats or more a night sit empty, rather than selling them at a reduced price? I'm seriously asking, because I'm no expert on theater economics. But my family has been in the hotel industry for sixty years, and when we have rooms that are unsold, we offer incentives (discounts, flash sales, etc) to fill them rather than leaving them empty. I've always viewed theater tickets as commodities with a fixed shelf life, like hotel rooms or airplane seats -- if they aren't sold by the time the curtain goes up or the plane takes off, they've lost their value. Why not sell empty seats for $40 cash starting an hour before curtain -- isn't some money better than none? | |

| Hotels or airline tickets are a service provided at a specific time. Flying to LA tomorrow or next week is not interchangeable. However, if you sell a ticket at $40 just to get butts in the seats today, that's attracting people that may have paid 90$ tomorrow or the next day. And yes, selling 80% of your tickets makes more money than selling 100%% at a 50% discount - that's just simple math. | |

| But there are multiple flights to LA every week, and multiple performances of every show. Some flights and performances might have more demand than others. If a seat to a Monday 8pm LA flight doesn't get sold, that commodity is gone; same for a seat at a Monday 8pm performance. And you're supposing that everyone will be savvy enough (or care enough) to seek out discounts. | |

| the revenue vs demand calculus is one that everyone wrestles with (unless they are in the position of selling everything at full price or above). You never know if you made the right choice until afterwards. But I agree that the analogy to hotel rooms or flights is not a good one. | |

| Well, but then of course that becomes the going rate. Once you start charging $40 for a seat, that becomes common knowledge, and it becomes harder to get even $90 for that seat in the future, right? I’m sure producers hate to see seats go empty, but they likely feel a need to keep prices up in the marketplace. (By the way, over the weekend I had my first $100-plus ticket at TKTS at 50 percent off. It doesn’t seem all that long ago that “The Producers” broke that barrier for a full-priced ticket. Can it keep going up and up forever??) |
