Charging for tickets when traditionally Wigstock was free may have kept people away. Also, Labor Day Weekend is tough to attract big audiences.

As you probably know, the last official Wigstock was held in 2001; I read that it ran into money problems (i.e., bankruptcy).

It didn't pay to put on a ''free'' event anymore, which is why it's been gone all these years. It was Harris and Burtka, who revived it with Lady Bunny. But now that drag is much more mainstream (and commercial), it's unlikely you'd get all these drag artists to perform for free. Tickets for this 6-hour event (with 50 draq queens) started at $99, and there were a limited number of $18.95 passes. Only time will tell if it's worth reviving next year.
