| It's a bit disturbing to read that he hadn't already donated his manuscripts to NYPL. I just hope that Elaine Joyce will give drafts and unpublished material to NYPL. I, for one, would love to be able the discarded third act (and the extra third-act scene) of The Odd Couple, the original third act of The Gingerbread Lady, the original second act of Last of the Red Hot Lovers, and Actors and Actresses, which disappeared forever after a run at the Hartman, despite getting at least one favorable review that made it sound rather interesting. Also, the discarded Plaza Suite playlet. | |

| This article doesn't get into who will have control of the performance rights to his plays (etc.) in future. Can we just assume it's Elaine Joyce, or not necessarily? | |

| Considering that Joyce is in her mid 70's, I hope that Simon and his family did some long-term estate planning, rather than simply short-term planning. Even if Joyce controls the estate now, I imagine that, over the next 10 years or so, Simon's daughters will be the ones making those decisions, unless Simon specifically empowered someone else, like a trusted attorney, to control the estate. Since we're likely talking about A LOT of revenue over time, I hope everyone in the Simon family gets along and we don't see a lengthy court battle here. |
