I wholeheartedly agree, Ann!

I went in with no expectations, and had the time of my life. Absolutely hilarious and a feel-good time. Haven't had this much fun (at this type of show) since HAIRSPRAY. Both Leavel and Ashmanskas truly define their roles!

This show may have aided in my disappointment with THE CHER SHOW which I saw a week later. Two different animals, but THE PROM is the one I was more entertained by.

Box office grosses aren't high, but have been consistently going up. They cracked the 400K mark last week. I hope the numbers pick up as the show certainly deserves a healthy run.

And yes, it was a NY Times Critics Pick by Jesse Green.

You're the second person I've heard refer to this show as the next Hairspray.

Saw it last Saturday Night, when Beth Leavel was out (she was also out for the matinee). Her cover/understudy, Kate Marilley, seemed to perform flawlessly despite limited prep time.
The show is great fun, from beginning to end, and has some catchy tunes.

I couldn't see the 2nd balcony sides, but the orchestra and mezzanine looked full - which is not what the telecharge diagram indicated two days earlier. There were hundreds of unsold seats when I ordered mine.

Delighted it got what used to be called a "money review" from the NY Times.

Highly recommended.

I've heard the same great report about Kate Marilley from two other people. Great break for her.

I thought Kate Marilley was so good and on the mark that she deserved to have our review go up based on her performance-- if it runs long enough, this should make her a prime candidate to step in if and when Leavel moves on. www.curtainup.com/prom18.html
