First gay kiss on the parade.
I loved "The Prom". The Broadway stars are delightful (though the Fosse Dancer hits a sour note with her gypsy joke), but the high school lovers are the heart of the show, and that shone through for me in their performance today.
I found the Mean Girls number incredibly generic. And yes, the choreo is pulling from the same styles, but most Broadway dance is fairly repetitive, just the reference point is changing as we bring hip hop to the theater.
The show that The Prom is really a twin to is Everybody's Talking About Jamie. The former is more polished (and gives us the finale we want), but I felt the latter was more genuine. They both left me in tears. |
