| This live recording of "Sing for Your Supper," said to be performed by the original cast, would seem to be from a radio performance, probably from Sunday afternoon, January 15, 1939, on a Radio Corp. of America program called "The Magic Key," heard on WJZ in New York. | |

| Thanks for this. Wonderful? But what is that lyric as the beginning -- sung by Wynn Murray? It's supposed to be "she is a courtesan on wings," but that word does not sound like "courtesan." | |

| She's singing "courtesan," but she's singing a different pronunciation of the first syllable than we're used to, with the same vowel heard in Larry Kert's last name. Which Merriam-Webster does list as an alternate pronunciation of courtesan. | |

| Thanks for this, it's wonderful! Several years ago I had the pleasure of hearing this sung by Barbara Cook, Debra Voigt and Dianne Reeves in a performance at Hollywood Bowl, which was about as dreamy as it gets. | |

| Thank you for this fascinating link. I was surprised that the tempo is slower than any of the versions I am used to (Off Broadway Cast--Capitol and Encores). It took me about a minute to get used to it, but once I did, I think I like it at this slightly slower speed. | |

| Thank you for such a musical treat. Their harmonies are so tight and accurate. And boy can that belter really belt. It’s fascinating to hear how singing styles have changed over the years...You just don’t hear that quick vibrato-type soprano any more. Rebecca Luker is the closest to still having that type of sound. | |
