| I'm coming late to this party, having just seen it today. Some of it made me long for the Underwood version. I found Tointon dull as Maria, Armstrong and Kelly slightly off as Max and Elsa, with Kelly being remarkably low class for Frau Schoeder, Friedman was vocally less impressive than most Mother Abbesses, but wonderfully sincere and believable. The Max Elsa numbers were dreadfully busy, and cutting the end of "No Way to Stop It" made no sense. (neither did some other cuts) Costumes were mostly awful. The whole thing was remarkably lifeless. |
