STUBS- is there a current magazine with seating charts?
Posted by: bmc (bmccabe67@comcast.net) 05:33 pm EST 11/25/18

I entered the name STUBS hoping to learn where the new edition was, but there were only out-of-print editions going for 200. - 400$; I'm looking for something current(and Cheap) that I can use to plan my spring theater binge. Does anyone know where such a compilation might be available?

Theatermania published a book called Seats with plans for all NYC theaters, concert halls and stadiums. I use it all the time, but you should keep in mind that theaters often alter their seating for various productions, so you should really look at the plan being offered for a particular event on Telecharge or Ticketmaster. The latest version was published in 2008 and it is available from Amazon for $16.95. Link is attached.

Playbill still has them. You have to do a search to find them. Print The ones you want for your trip.

Some editions of Stubs are going for much less on abebooks. Linking. Not that you're looking for an older one.

At one time I had one from the late 1960s or early 1970s. Wish I still had it. Now I only have one from 1979. They are very valuable for seeing how many seats some Broadway theatre have added over the years and for seating charts of theatres that no longer exist. Also for the charts of Off-Broadway theatres and even some theatres outside New York.

I wouldn’t trust something too old

Since theaters have changed seating. Playbill does keep them up to date. The lyric has the potter seating.

Oh, I definitely wouldn't go to an old edition of Stubs to check on seating for any current show.

I looked a few years ago and found nothing. Did find a 1960s copy in the rare book room of our university library. My guess is that the internet has removed the little need for that book. Looking at the old copy, it surprised me. I had forgotten how cheaply it was layed out, in some cases the seating is drawn with a pen.

Sorry. Can't help.

Maybe someone should set up a website with all the Broadway theater seating charts?

What Broadway really needs is its own version of the TheatreMonkey site -- not just seating charts, but reports on specific seats for specific shows.
