This Friday, November 30 at 9:30 pm at The Green Room 42

This Friday, November 30th at 9:30 pm brings the Spotlight Theatre Company's celebration of Broadway’s premier composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty to The Green Room 42, 570 Tenth Avenue 4th Floor (YOTEL) NYC! Directed by Jacques Stewart, with Musical Direction by Phil Hall, Why We Tell the Story is an evening of Broadway highlights from Ragtime, Seussical, Once On This Island, Rocky, Anastasia, The Glorious Ones, A Man Of No Importance, Lucky Stiff and My Favorite Year.

Featuring nine dynamic performers including Mary Lee Marson Aloia, Mark Bradley Miller, Max Joseph, Robert Koutras, Krystle Adams, Robert Fowler, Samantha Schiffman, Brian Demar Jones and Rose Van Dyne with Melanie Baker (violin), Zach Sicherman (bass), Adrian Daurov (cello), Doug Hinrichs (drums / percussion) and Phil Hall (piano).

KRYSTLE N. ADAMS Brooklyn-born native Krystle (Hairspray, Aida, West Side Story, Or Current Resident, web series: Brooklyn Baby, Jersey Maybe) is thrilled to be performing selections from the glorious music of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. She is also a member of the Playwright/Directing Unit as a playwright at the Actors Studio. Krystle resides in New Jersey with her family.

LEE MARSON ALOIA is one of the founders of Spotlight Repertory Theatre, as well as Spotlight Youth Theatre Company of Staten Island. Mary Lee is also a proud member of Actor's Equity. Most recently she performed the role of Helen in Spotlight Rep's sold out production of Fun Home. Other recent regional credits include: Rose in Gypsy, The Baker's Wife in Into The Woods & Gladys Clahoun in Memphis, for which she won the NH Professional Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actress. Mary Lee is also the owner of Staten Island Family Music, offering Music Together classes to families with children; newborn - kindergarten age. ROBERT H. FOWLER, a native New Yorker, is excited to be a part of this evening, and singing this incredible music with his friends of The Spotlight Theater. ROBERT KOUTRAS is a New York based actor, writer, and composer. A proud member of Actor’s Equity Association, he has appeared in the original Off-Broadway company of Sessions, toured the United States in The Full Monty and internationally in Grease. He received a Carbonell Award nomination for his portrayal of Leo Frank in the South Florida premiere of Parade as well as a New Hampshire Theatre Award nomination for his performance of Frank Butler in Annie Get Your Gun. Favorite regional appearances include Fun Home, Parade, A Christmas Carol, Sweeney Todd, Beauty and the Beast, As You Like It, My Fair Lady and Footloose. His own musical, The End, for which he wrote the book, music and lyrics recently had it’s first presentation at the Workshop Theater in Manhattan with more to come. BFA Ithaca College.

SAMANTHA SCHIFFMAN's favorite credits include Fun Home (Medium Alison) at Spotlight Repertory Theatre, Grease (Patti Simcox) and Guys and Dolls at Maine State Music Theatre, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown (Sally Brown) and Seussical (Bird Girl) at The Gallery Players, The Teacher from the Black Lagoon (Lilly) with TheatreworksUSA, Hair (Jeanie), Jesus Christ Superstar, Plath., 35mm, The Rocky Horror Show. Samantha is originally from Chicago, and graduated from Indiana University.

ROSE VAN DYNE is a Colorado native who is thrilled to be making her New York City debut at The Green Room 42! Previous roles include Nina in In the Heights, and Martha in Spring Awakening. Her favorite Ahrens and Flaherty show is Once on This Island.

JACQUES STEWART (Director) is a professional actor, director, choreographer and co-founder of Spotlight Theatre. For 25 years, he served as the Artistic Director of The Weathervane Theatre, a professional repertory theatre in The White Mountains of New Hampshire. He is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association and Society of Directors and Choreographers.

MELANIE BAKER (Violin) has performed in many venues in New York and beyond, playing with symphony orchestras, in recitals, and chamber music. She has played over the years with the Queens Symphony, Bronx Arts Ensemble, and American Symphony, to name a few, and in many Broadway shows. She is a graduate of the Hartt School and the Manhattan School of Music.

ZACH SICHERMAN (Bass) is a NYC-based multi-instrumentalist, originally from Asbury Park, NJ. Credits include Wicked (Broadway), Gettin’ the Band Back Together (Broadway), Desperate Measures (Off-Broadway), Rent 20th Anniversary Tour (Associate Music Director), Mamma Mia! ADRIAN DAUROV (Cello) is a versatile cellist, who performs on world-famous concert stages including Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Madison Square Garden, and the General Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters, ranging from classical solo recitals to playing shows with the likes of Alicia Keys, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Josh Groban, Burt Bacharach, The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Sarah Brightman and the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Ros. Most recently, Adrian has collaborated with the Swedish folk-rock band First Aid Kit, and also toured with the cello rock band Break of Reality. In recent season, Mr Daurov has been seen performing as a soloist with the Kalamazoo Symphony, Bozeman Symphony, Altoona Symphony, Westerville Symphony, Massapequa Philharmonic and Ridgefield Symphony, and other orchestras. Among the upcoming highlights is the performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Three Meditations from MASS for Cello and Orchestra with the Dayton Philharmonic and Maestro John Mauceri, in celebration of composer’s 100th Birthday. He studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in Russia. Adrian's cello playing was heard and broadcast on several radio stations and TV channels like WNYC, WQXR and NTV-America and popular American TV shows such as Regis & Kelly Live, Good Morning America, Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Adrian made his New York solo debut at Merkin Hall at Lincoln Center and performed as a soloist with The Chamber Orchestra of New York at Carnegie Hall.

PHIL HALL (Musical Director/Pianist/Arranger) Throughout his career, Phil Hall has created significant achievements in just about every aspect of the musical theater industry. On Broadway, he was the conductor for Play Me A Country Song and was the associate conductor for the revival of Mame, which starred Angela Lansbury. Phil was also the musical director and conductor for dozens of productions including Phantom, the third national tour of Cats, Side By Side By Sondheim, The Merry Widow, 42nd Street, The Desert Song and The Wizard of Oz. Throughout the United States his work was featured at such renown venues as the Kennedy Center, the Paper Mill Playhouse, Atlanta’s Theater of the Stars, Houston’s Theatre Under The Stars, Seattle’s Fifth Avenue Theatre and the Michigan Opera Theatre. Onstage, Phil played the role of Jake in Paper Mill's production of Show Boat, which aired on PBS' Great Performances series. On film, Phil played a vocal coach and pianist in the Mira Sorvino-produced, Griffin Dunne-directed film Lisa Picard Is Famous. Phil’s vocal arrangements, featured in the musical revue, Sophisticated Ellington were presented at Carnegie Hall, conducted by the Erich Kunzel with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. He wrote the score to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which was presented at North Shore Music Theater, Kansas City Starlight, and Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera. A short list of luminaries from the performing arts world who have worked with Phil include: Angela Lansbury, Lily Tomlin, Tommy Tune, Ron Raines, Nanette Fabray, Phyllis Diller, Nancy Marchand, Madeline Kahn, Judy Kaye, Donna McKechnie, Catherine Hickland, Gregory Hines, Nancy Dussault, Charles Shaugnessy, Teri Hatcher, Laurie Beechman, Marin Mazzie, Victoria Clark and Randy Graff.

DOUG HINRICHS (Percussionist/drummer) performs and records with countless artists in the New York City area and beyond, and has performed in several Broadway shows. Doug is perhaps best-known for his work in the musical “In The Heights,” for which he played drums and percussion during the show’s developmental years, and held the percussion chair for its run on Broadway. Doug’s percussion tracks have been on jingles for ESPN, PowerAde, The New York Knicks, and Miller Lite Beer. Also a composer, his credits include placements of his pieces on the USA, CBS, and ABC television networks. He is an LP, Sabian, and Remo endorser.
