| Even though I know the digital lotteries are easier for many to partake in, I miss the in-person lotteries. | |

| Once On This Island has an in person lottery (and last time I went everyone that entered got tickets). I would love to hear any producers tell me the justification for switching to online lotteries. They don’t reward die hard fans and make it exponentially more difficult for fans of less means to attend theatre. | |

| The "justification" for the online lotteries is that the producers can easily collect e-mail addresses and data for future use. | |

| Curious if there are people on here that did inperson for years and now do online if there chances have dwindled or even given up? I’ve been doing on line rush in San Fran for a few shows and I have to start the second it begins. I was about 1 minute late for waitress and everything was gone |

| I did lotteries for years and usually did fairly well. The only one I remember losing often was Wicked but this was when Idina and Kristin were still in it. For most shows it was very easy odds, I remember once showing up to Hairspray's and there were 30 people waiting for 20 tickets. There used to be timing considerations too, you couldn't enter two separate lotteries that were occurring at the same time, so the pool of entrants were less. I also remember a lot of shows that weren't huge sellers immediately offering losers reasonably priced seats or obstructed view. I remember seeing the Ragtime revival in a seat where you couldn't really see the top of the stage and just going to hear that score. I have won exactly ONE digital lottery and it was for Fun Home in previews and I really lost it but they called and offered me a seat. I don't like the digital lotteries. I have sometimes wondered since it's all done without any disclosure how many tickets they are actually allotting. I have never won the Springsteen lottery (which BTW is $75!!) but I've often wondered if they are only offering 2 seats or some impossible odds. For other shows it does appear on social media that people do win, but I have never been lucky. I also feel the sense of community is lost with the digital lotteries, but felt very uncomfortable with the extremely crowded situations that started happening for the Hamilton lottery, so on some levels I can understand it. |

| Lottery online is very hard. If you really need a show in a slot, this is not the way to go. The easiest online lottery to win is School of Rock or Head Over Heals (rush on TodayTix at 10 am) It was Margaritaville this summer. I think there is a benefit to the theaters in that they can offer 20,30,100 tickets this way if they want and no one will really know. If they show isn't doing well, the easier it is to win - makes sense, I guess. For popular shows, winning is almost impossible. |

| There is no transparency as to how the online lotteries work. Some shows do not disclose the number of tickets available. And most shows don't disclose what happens to unclaimed lottery seats (Hamilton sells them to the standby line at full price). I believe Harry Potter is the only show that will continue "drawing" names until all unclaimed seats are sold. How many entrants are out of state and have no intention to see the show? How many entrants decide after entering they don't want to really see the show and forfeit the ticket? At least with the in-person lottery, the odds were better, and people had to "work" to win the ticket (i.e., by showing up). It also prevented leftover tickets. To me, there are to many "what happens if . . ." with the online lotteries. I think to eliminate "ghost" entries, people should be required to enter the payment information at the time they enter, and then their "winning" email simply be a confirmation of the sale. |
