| THE PROM is a real crowd-pleaser, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The "Broadway activists" are all wonderful and the whole cast seems to be having a great time. I had enjoyed the production in Atlanta-- especially the leads-- but had some issues with some of the design and costuming choices (strangely anachronistic). While those things still bother me, I think it works. Only lingering question I have after this and MEAN GIRLS: is it impossible to cast 'high school kids' who look like they are actually in high school? Aside from the lead, Caitlin Kinnunen (who has grown stronger since Atlanta), the rest of them-- talented as they are-- don't look like they've been inside a high school in a decade or so. But go see it, if only for what Brooks, Beth, Chris and Angie are doing on that stage. They're phenomenal. |

| I saw yesterday's matinee and really enjoyed it! The cast was hilarious and I was so charmed by Angie Schworer, who I don't remember seeing before. She has a wonderful moment at beginning of second act encouraging the lead not to give up her fight. Hope to see more of her! And the dancers were wonderful too! A really fun time and that means a LOT in these dark times! | |

| Agree - all of the leads are great. Angie Schworer was a replacement Ulla in The Producers on Broadway (didn't see her) and the first Ulla on tour (did see her - she was beautiful, but the accent was inconsistent). She still looks very young. |

| One of the challenges in casting high school students for "The Prom" (as well as "Jagged Little Pill") is that many (possibly all) of them are also playing adults in other scenes. | |

| yeah, that's a fair point, but I still couldn't really suspend my disbelief during the many high school kids sequences in the show... | |

| I could not believe that not a single reviewer pointed out that the set, the costumes, and the choreography were nearly identical to those in the director's last show. This show looked and felt so much like Mean Girls to me. Casey Nicholaw has four shows running on Broadway right now. I have no idea why he didn't pick a follow up to Mean Girls that was not set in a contemporary high school, has a finale at the prom, and relies almost entirely on Broadway hip-hop choreography. | |

| Casey N is the most overrated director on Broadway, with Jerry Mitchell a close second. | |

| On what possible basis other than your personal taste? I am not a fan of "Casey N's" work, as either a director or choreographer, but the silliness in this thread makes me wonder how many of you are smoking crack. |

| This has got to stop. Just because someone can stage a dance number does not make them a director. Robbins, Champion, Fosse and Bennett were the exceptions that prove the rule that choreographers should remain choreographers and not "cross over" to directing. | |

| Stroman certainly proved she can direct with THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS (as well as CONTACT). | |

| "Just because someone can stage a dance number does not make them a director. Robbins, Champion, Fosse and Bennett were the exceptions that prove the rule that choreographers should remain choreographers and not 'cross over' to directing." I wholeheartedly agree, but I do think there are SOME current choreographer who have turned out to be excellent directors as well, and the first name that comes to mind on that short list is Casey Nicholaw. |

| Completely agree. I’d add Susan Stroman to the list good of choreographers who has never been a good director. | |

| I couldn't believe hardly any reviewers pointed out that it's all terrible. :P The friend who went with me recently saw and liked Mean Girls, and until I pointed it out he wouldn't have guessed that it was also Nicholaw's work. Aside from lacking a big tap number his stamp is pretty obvious, but in a poor-imitation sort of way. He was involved with The Prom before Mean Girls was really a thing, right? There's probably not he could have done about them arriving eight months apart. It's not as if he could have pulled out of The Prom post-Mean Girls without killing it entirely. |

| Agreed. But he could have made the styles and choreography of the shows different. When that giant bank of technicolor lockers flew in during The Prom, I seriously thought they had borrowed the set. | |
