I've always loved Agatha Christie and I think it's great that her work is getting re-examined for the 21st Century. Interesting that there was no mention in this piece about Ken Ludwig's adaptation of MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS. Is that project completely dead? Perhaps this UK paper was simply focusing on productions in the UK.

I've always had this idea that the reason that Christie's plays didn't get much respect is that, WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION aside, most of them just aren't very good or particularly distinguished as drama. Though she disagreed, it's always seemed to me that adaptations of her work done by others are just better plays than the ones she wrote herself. Even THE MOUSETRAP, which is a prototypical example of the form, has huge plot holes and dangling threads that you just have to ignore and hope the audience doesn't catch.

One interesting, lesser known play by Christie is VERDICT, which isn't a murder mystery so much as a psychological drama. I was completely unfamiliar with it until I saw a production in Brooklyn a few years back and it was terrific. Very different for Christie and I imagine that, were her name not on the program, most people would've been hard-pressed to identify her as the author.

"I cannot stand his work."
And I thought it was just me.

"And I thought it was just me."

Oh, it's not just you. And I don't think it's just us!
