| MICHAEL CHERNUS, LINDA EMOND, CUSH JUMBO, TRACY LETTS, MICHAEL SHANNON, AND MICHAEL URIE AMONG FIRST GUEST ACTORS TO PERFORM IN BARROW STREET THEATRICALS’ AMERICAN PREMIERE OF “NASSIM” BY NASSIM SOLEIMANPOUR FIRST PREVIEW DECEMBER 6, 2018 OPENING NIGHT SET FOR DECEMBER 12, 2018 AT NEW YORK CITY CENTER, STAGE II Producers Scott Morfee, Jean Doumanian, and Tom Wirtshafter announced today the first guest actors for Barrow Street Theatricals’ American premiere of the Nassim Soleimanpour and Bush Theatre production of NASSIM by celebrated Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour (White Rabbit Red Rabbit), featuring direction by Omar Elerian. During the first month of performances, a rotating cast of guest actors will include Scott Adsit, Kate Arrington, Jessie Austrian, Reed Birney, Ewen Bremner, Michael Chernus, Linda Emond, Peter Grosz, Andy Grotelueschen, Geraldine Hughes, Cush Jumbo, Tracy Letts, Jennifer Lim, Ken Marks, Tedra Millan, Martin Moran, Sally Murphy, Brad Oscar, Annie Parisse, Armando Riesco, Michael Shannon, and Michael Urie. As previously announced, Barrow Street Theatricals, formerly Barrow Street Theatre, moves uptown to New York City Center, Stage II (131 West 55th Street) just for this production, with performances scheduled to begin on Thursday, December 6, 2018, ahead of an official opening night on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Additional details will be announced shortly. No rehearsals. A different guest actor at every performance. A sealed envelope. And some surprises. In his latest work, Nassim explores the power of language to unite us in these uncertain times. NASSIM was originally commissioned and produced by the Bush Theatre and received its world premiere at the Bush Theatre, London, July 25, 2017. Nassim Soleimanpour’s first play, White Rabbit Red Rabbit, ran for more than nine months in New York, and was performed by Whoopi Goldberg, Bobby Cannavale, Nathan Lane, F. Murray Abraham, and other celebrated actors. It has been performed thousands of times in the United States and has been translated into more than 25 languages. NASSIM is his latest exploration into imaginative storytelling that also challenges traditional theatrical forms. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.NYCityCenter.org; on the phone by calling CityTix at 212-581-1212; or in person at New York City Center box office, open Monday-Saturday, noon-8pm, and Sunday, noon-7:30pm. Barrow Street Theatricals was founded by Scott Morfee and Tom Wirsthafter in 2003 at its home in New York’s historic Greenwich House, where they operated the 200-seat Barrow Street Theatre until September 2018. They have produced and presented numerous award-winning shows, including the Tooting Arts Club production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street; Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe (with Paines Plough); Tracy Letts’ BUG; Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, Tribes by Nina Raine (both directed by David Cromer); Josh Schmidt’s Adding Machine: a musical, and many more. Praise for NASSIM “An unusually vivid celebration of theatre’s liveness, speaking the universal language of humanity. That makes it sound pat and sentimental. It’s not. This is a show that uses presence – technology and physical – and absence to clever effect. It explores the freedom and limitation of language, whether through censorship or the difficulties of speaking in one language and feeling in another. The act of staging this show is a striking demonstration of how words can keep us apart but also bring us together.” -The Guardian “A tantalizing theatrical provocation that breaks down all walls.” -The Stage “The story of human connection and hope embodied in the very form of Nassim Soleimanpour’s work, and – perhaps – now also embedded in the heart of everyone who sees this remarkable show.” -The Scotsman |

| The central 'gimmick' of this show is the same as Tim Crouch's AN OAK TREE, which was produced at (but not by) Barrow Street Theatre in 2006. During the run of that show Mr Crouch was joined by a different actor at each performance. The talents that joined Mr Crouch included Joan Allen, F Murray Abraham, Mike Myers, Frances McDormand, David Hyde Pierce, Laurie Anderson, Chris Durang, and 73 others. | |

| not sure the pejorative "gimmick" is the right word, but I would think the more apt point of reference would be the playwright's own White Rabbit Red Rabbit. | |
