The link below includes an incredibly absorbing interview with several actresses who are at the top of their game (and is accompanied by a gorgeous photo shoot and some wonderful video clips).

A couple of tidbits struck me as particularly relevant to theatre. Most notably, when discussing what roles they wish they could play, Kathryn Hahn says, "There are so many roles in the theater that would be amazing to play, that I can't wait for my kids to be a little bit older and to be able to get back to the theater." (Perhaps this is why we haven't seen her back on Broadway despite her thoroughly entertaining turn in Boeing-Boeing.")

Kidman responds, "I did it in London recently, and it was hard. You miss bedtime. I can't miss bedtime. That makes me cry." Kidman's comment was in stark contrast to an interview that I remember Vanessa Williams doing when she was in Kiss of the Spider Woman, talking about how doing a Broadway show was the perfect job for a parent because you can get your kids on the bus, greet them when they come home, and have dinner together. Yes, bedtime was notably missing from her description, but still...

I wonder what the results of a poll of working actresses would be in regards to how "kid-friendly" working in the theatre is. I'm not talking about the lack of job security or even the realities of "the glamorous life" of touring and regional gigs. Assuming an actress can earn her living doing eight shows a week in one city (probably New York or London), how kid-friendly is theatre in comparison to television or film?

Also, should we read anything into this regarding a possible New York transfer of Kidman's Photograph 51?

Another fun moment comes when Regina King says she wishes she could play Joan of Arc. I so wish it had been a more theatre-friendly room so a connection to "Mother of the Maid" could have at least been mentioned.
