Why wouldn't he like My Fair Lady?

I thought it was lovely!

I love Book of Mormon but it might offend.

I enjoyed Come From Away and The Band's Visit. I think either of them would fit the bill.

I too am puzzled why you have ruled out MY FAIR LADY. Your father's taste seem to run toward the classic and/or traditional, and the Lincoln Center MY FAIR LADY is a lavish rendition of a musical landmark.

Having said that, it seems that ANASTASIA might also be a good bet for him. It features traditional storytelling, beautiful production values, and a melodic score. If he is hesitant because of the animated film version, point out that Terrence McNally doesn't write kiddie shows.

Though on a purely practical note, might MFL close by May? (nm)

It has made over $1m each week since April. I assume that lct doesn’t have to pay rent like most commercial productions so grosses can go lower than commercial productions. I think MFL has another year in it.

Lots of great suggestions. Thank you, all. I had forgotten that KISS ME KATE was coming. FIDDLER is also a good suggestion as is COME FROM AWAY and THE BAND’S VISIT. He would like ANASTASIA, but I didn’t like it enough to want to revisit it.

I hesitate on MY FAIR LADY only because he isn’t a big fan of the movie. I know it’s a gorgeous production and a true musical theater classic, but I don’t think he’d be as enthusiastic about it as he would about some of the other options. I, personally, can’t wait to see it now that Laura Benanti is playing Eliza, but that’s me - not dad.

I’m also toying with the idea of THE LION KING, which has such gorgeous stage craft. I haven’t seen it since it first opened, and I don’t know how it’s holding up all these years later.

AIN’T TOO PROUD is also something I think he might like, but I don’t know anyone who’s seen it out-of-town.

What do folks think about PRETTY WOMAN? KING KONG?

Again, thank you all for helping me think through this. I know he looks forward to this outing every year, and I want it to be special.

Tootsie because everyone should see Santino Fontana in a musical.
